The Uglies Project Description
The whole point is to laugh, to break up anything feeling rigid, and to let whatever feels like relief come flowing through. The whole point is to let go, relax, and fart it all out.
Each piece is called an Uglie.
I don't actually find any of this “ugly.” There's an inner critic formed from my experience — a phantom that personifies the dark, the scary, the monster in the shadows. It speaks in my mind with that classic resistance every artist can relate to. The funniest thing is that whenever I turn on the lights to face the shadow, it’s usually something kinda goofy and funny that appears. I think it's especially interesting how goofy this stuff is. Wouldn't this be such a funny project to be mad or upset about?
This is my visual representation of exploring and expressing the whole without judgment or shame. It's been important to me to move through this project reclaiming my right to express all of myself — including anything others have previously judged me for, bad advice I’ve been given, or goofy ideas that occur to me that I might normally filter out in the day-to-day. The outcome has been a loving, witnessing, embracing, and humorous energy that I love to feel & practice while creating these.
I get a kick out of making people chuckle a little bit too.
I've drawn countless “uglies” at this point. At first it was just me doodling around on post-it notes and event programs. Now it's become one of my favorite ongoing projects ever. Endless interpolations and iterations are possible. I've completed custom commissions, sold and sent dozens of prints in the mail, and will probably keep adding to this till I'm dead meat.

the vibe I channel in the moment thinking about you and your message, sometimes a clear message comes through that I feel you need to hear
the humor and enjoyment levels while reading your message request
and of course the available budget
